The port uses it to shunt trains around, at least that’s the only thing I’ve seen these big guys doing. I don't even know what make it is, maybe one of your guys is better at big equipment than me.

The term is a Front End Loader.
That looks like an older model Cat.

“Hey Bill, got some bad news about your shift today.”
“What is it?”
“Front end loader has a flat. I need you to change the tire.”
“... fuck.”

It has no bucket or anything, I figured it might've been a similar thing just for shunting purposes, but maybe they just bought a couple front end loaders and removed the front end loading part

I think it has solid tires, I could be wrong though. The mechanics never look pleased when they have to change flats on those huge forklifts though....
They also replaced the engine in the big guy a few months ago, that looked awful

That’s exactly what they did then, because that is a front end loader. I take it you work at a port then? What do you do there?

Kind of odd, but they made it work I guess. I don’t, I’m a driver for a parts store, and the port orders pretty frequently

One of the freight yards near me bought a brand new Unimog as their utility. I had to do a double take because I’ve never seen a new one in person

I’ve seen more than my share of front end loaders in this context.
But the same technology is put to even more awesome use in this tech here.
Same engines, wheels and axles. Different outcome

They have huge Cummins in them and surprisingly loud exhaust, they sound like they’re absolutely hauling ass at about 20km/h. I enjoy them
